Welcome to my site! I'm Scott DeLoach (Ph.D.), Director of Writing and Assistant Professor of English at Albright College in Reading, PA.
About me
I earned a Ph.D. in English with an emphasis in Composition and Applied Linguistics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Spring of 2021. I have spent my career teaching students of promise, many of whom identify as first-generation or non-traditional college students. As such, my teaching aims to demystify academic writing and discursive conventions so that my students feel confident navigating academic spaces. Many of my writing assignments invite students to use their lived experiences as heuristics for scholarly inquiry.
As a teacher-scholar, my research interests center on topics that can directly impact my pedagogical practices. My dissertation project, Shift Happens: Narrative of First-Year, First-Generation Students During the COVID-19 Pandemic, examined how first-year, first-generation students dealt with the pivot to Emergency Remote Teaching/Learning precipitated by the outbreak of COVID-19. As Director of Writing, I am currently researching the ways in which generative AI tools are impacting how writing is taught across various disciplines.
I am professionally affiliated with the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP), National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), the Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA), and the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum (AWAC).
